Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to ease coronavirus restrictions in Russia as of Tuesday.
During a televised broadcast on Monday, the President also announced new measures to support the Russian economy as well as welfare payments for families with children.
Monday’s announcement came amidst a spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Russia, making it’s infection tally the third highest globally.
Over the last 24 hours, the country’s coronavirus cases rose by a daily amount to 11,656, making the official tally 221,344.
According to a Reuters report, more than half of all cases and deaths are in Moscow, the epicentre of Russia’s outbreak.
On Monday alone, the Russian capital reported an overnight increase of 6,169 new cases, bringing its official total to 115,909.
Only Spain and the United States have recorded more cases than Russia, the world’s largest country.
